As a fan of the original ColorStay foundation, I was super excited to hear that Revlon was adding a new foundation to this line. I was even more excited to see the display in my local CVS store, but was sad to see that the majority of the shades were designed for lighter skin tones and only one for darker tones like mine.
The best part about this launch was there was a place in the shipper for my shade, but it was filled with a lighter shade. When I asked the sales associate if they had anymore in the back, she said no and that they just recently put out the shipper. She also added that she wasn’t sure why they didn’t send any darker shades…
Saddened but not defeated I continued to look for my foundation color at different CVS stores throughout the week. No surprise here, I could not find my shade.
I want to know why this is okay in the beauty community? Why is it okay to be non-inclusive towards darker shades? By consistently overlooking darker skin tones, companies are not only missing out on profits, but completely missing the point. The point is when you don't include shades for darker skin tones you are saying they do not belong in the beauty community and that is just wrong.
It is sad, unfortunate, and needs to change. I want to live in a world where all skin tones are able to feel beautiful and accepted. Stay tuned for the foundation review. It will be up when I can finally find it for my dark skin.
